Freshman Convocation

Freshman Convocation is a formal induction ceremony to welcome all new freshmen to Georgia State. Join Dr. Becker as he officially inducts the new freshman class into the campus community through a medallion ceremony and recitation of the Freshman Pledge. United States Poet Laureate and Pulitzer Prize-winng Poet, Natasha Trethewey, author of Beyond Katrina, which has been selected as the Fall 2013 First-Year Book, will be the keynote speaker.Festivities continue afterward with a Block Party for the Class of 2017 and their families. Panther Welcome Block Party

The Panther Welcome Block Party is an interactive event designed to welcome new students and their parents to campus as well as celebrate the beginning of their college careers. Students will be able to play interactive games and meet-and-greet student athletes from various sports.United States Poet Laureate and Pulitzer Prize-winng Poet, Natasha Trethewey, author of Beyond Katrina, which has been selected as the Fall 2013 First-Year Book, will be at the Block Party to meet students and sign their personal copies of Beyond Katrina.

Freshmen Community Plunge, Cookout & Pool Party

As part of Panther Welcome Week, students will engage in community service at various non-profits around Atlanta. Students will meet in Speakers Auditorium at 8:30am where they will choose a project and break into groups. Student leaders from the Office of Civic Engagement will walk students to the service sites they select, where they will participate in a 3 ½ hour community service project.
